Charles Husser

The son of a painter and a visual artist, Charles Husser has been immersed in painting from a young age. As a teenager, the young and rebellious Husser sought to assert himself through the technique of graffiti. In 2005, he formed a collective of graffiti artists, which over the course of two years, left traces in the form of murals, both in private homes and public spaces between Nantes and Saint-Nazaire.

In 2007, Charles Husser was admitted to the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts of Montpellier, but was expelled shortly after arriving. The artist then focused on painting. Between 2009 and 2010, he took to the streets of Montpellier, hanging his paintings in a way that invited passersby to engage with them.

From 2010 to 2011, the artist lived in Santiago, Chile, where he carried out various artistic projects. After returning to France in 2011, Charles Husser began painting compulsively. Believing that the medium must also provide him with pleasure, evoking a strong emotion before even welcoming the paint, he began searching for the ideal surface that would allow him to break free from the canvas.

In 2013, Charles Husser was drawn to the use of wood as a medium. He shaped it with his new tool, a chainsaw. This marked the beginning of his work in wood sculpture. From 2014 onward, his works were exhibited in galleries in Montauban and Toulouse, and later in Copenhagen and Geneva, among other places.
