As part of its usual approach of fostering a dialogue between Brazilian and European contemporary art, espace_L is this time inviting the artists Marcelo Jácome and Vivianne van Singer to its premises.
Since color is a fundamental principle in the work of both artists, the exhibition reveals their respective subtleties in the observation and handling of this element.
While the Brazilian artist draws inspiration from kites that punctuate space with their colors, the Italian-Swiss artist plays with the metamorphoses of color, from its raw material to its application. In both cases, the aim is to evoke the fascination, impact, and symbolism elicited by color. The playful dimension is also present.
Sensation, contemplation, emotion—these are just a few of the responses triggered by colored materials. Through their constructions and arrangements, the artists, using various supports such as paper, elastic bands, and plastic bags, demonstrate that no material remains ordinary once it is imbued with color, thereby acquiring a unique meaning and particular intensity.
