Sarah Garbarg and Gabriela Maciel

The works of Sarah Garbarg and Gabriela Maciel gathered here reveal their respective ways to evoke and express their idea of space. For many individual steps, each invites the viewer to reflect on this notion.
In the work of the French Sarah Garbarg, especially in his series of drawings developed from cadastral plans of cities, the reference to the figures, calculations, and looking for maximum objectivity suggests a Cartesian method. At the same time, skinning, black and white and empty pave the way for a playful side. A bit like the games of children in which only a few points are given and a form appears only by lines connecting them, Garbarg’s work invites the viewer to create his own space. The subtle blend of logic and poetry inspiring imagination.
In Gabriela Maciel, and override the instinctive gesture. For the realization of his works, the Brazilian artist establishes guidelines that will serve him starting as benchmarks and as the work will be built. In fact, it is now and the creative process itself that is central to his work. And one of those moments would be the explosion. As also applied by the artist in a series of photographs showing piles of rubble pearls. These photographs could be considered as evidence of that time which would be the passage of the solid form of his sculptures to the fluid performance for which this same material is used.
Thus, in the two approaches presented here, concepts such as deconstruction and construction, measure and excess come into play for the notion of space, representation or perception can be enriched with various options.
